Hunter Valley golf site gets web search boost
Less than a month after launching the Newcastle Golf Club website, we are happy to reveal that the club’s search rankings and web traffic have improved immensely.
The previous Newcastle Golf Club website had some serious search engine optimisation issues, preventing it from featuring in relevant searches on Google and Yahoo. In fact, it only showed on searches using the words “Newcastle” and “Golf”. Part of Sticky’s brief was to lift the club up in searches for a series of terms.
Here is a summary of early results:
SNOBS - a social media site for business women launches
Newcastle media identity Carlee Potter has launched SNOBS, a social media site for business women. Carlee describes SNOBS as “an online magazine and social network for businesswomen. It is a resource for news, information and advice where career-driven women can connect with fresh industry contacts and keep in touch with valued friends.”
A former Newcastle radio announcer (NEWFM and NXFM) and freelance journalist (Sun Herald and Ralph), Carlee has moved boldly into the digital publishing world with SNOBS. The site mixes conventional magazine-style columns and social events coverage with interactive events calendars, citizen journalism and networking opportunities.
Is your business ready for social media?
In the August 2008 edition of Marketing Magazine Sticky was identified as one of the leading social media agencies in Australia. Yet, since Sticky relaunched as Newcastle’s first Digital, Social and Traditional media agency we haven’t talked up the social media aspect as publicly as some of our other offerings. One-on-one with clients we have begun introducing social media thinking and strategies to their marketing, but we weren’t sure if people here were ready for a full-on social media information onslaught.
Social media in Australia is still very much an emerging form of marketing and as currently there are very few genuine Australian social media agencies. Many agencies are beginning to pay lip service to social media, but aren’t really addressing it correctly or effectively.
How do I get better Google rankings?
The biggest question we are asked when talking about online marketing here in Australia is “How do I get better Google rankings?” The other variation of the question is “How do I get onto the first page on Google?”

In the web industry this is a little like asking “What is the meaning of life?” Its both that important and that mysterious.
Here at Sticky we have learned a lot about getting better Google rankings; so much so that we now bundle it into all web design. While we aren’t ready to give away all our trade secrets to better search engine optimisation we are very happy to share this simple guide to improving your Google page rankings (you will have to make an appointment to find out the rest).
Is your website ready for Google Chrome?
Google releases Chrome this week in what could lead to potentially the biggest change in web browsing in years. Chrome sees Google move into the totally new space (for them) of Browsing. If successful it could mean that one company is the dominant name in Search and Browsers.
The implications of Google having a successful browser will be revealed over time, however already some are suggesting that the importance of good search engine optimisation has never been greater.
Read the Google promotional cartoon (yes, cartoon) and you will soon realise that the rules are about to change.
It seems that if your SEO efforts aren’t good enough, Google’s will be ignoring you in the testing of their browser, too. If their browser achieves any level of success, Google will test against your site - if you rank.
Now here is the part that marketers must really to pay close attention to….
